Common sense. I began my first book with these words and I do so again in book #2, Fundraising Insights for Nonprofits. Common sense, or independent thinking and pure logic form the basis of my writing. All fundraisers need a directional arrow to guide them. I trust and hope this is what my book offers.
Much the same way as with Learn From My Experiences (my first book - www.normangildin.com), insights in this book are based on real-life experiences and careful research. Instead of boring readers to tedious tears with dry and uninspired “Fundraising 101” text, I prefer to share anecdotes that provide context. A relatable story with humor or poignancy is more likely to engage people.
I added a new feature not found in book #1. At the end of each chapter, I provide a succinct addendum called “Abstract.” It aids readers by giving them a pithy summary or gist of what they read. This way, you can jump back and forth between topics of interest. Sometimes, you can use this device to determine whether you’re interested in perusing through different sections of the book. It’s meant to aid you in choosing themes of interest, or briefly summarizing what you just read.
Source attribution is crucial for this book. If it’s not an idea that originated from me, then I try to give proper source recognition. I will use quotation marks and/or italics for most of these. Otherwise, I will summarize or even paraphrase non-original content to the extent possible.
You will find most, if not all, of the attributions online or in other cited publications. I have done everything in my power to give credit where credit is due. Otherwise, it represents my ideas and imagination. If you’re not sure, then Google, DuckDuckGo, or use some other search engine to find the exact information I referenced in any chapter.
Technology has revolutionized our lives. Today, authors can produce their books using artificial intelligence (AI). Ah, well. That’s not me. You might be interested in a chapter I wrote on artificial intelligence (see Chapter Sixty-Eight—“AI: What’s All the Fuss About?”). Please know, however, that I did not write any of these essays with ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Aiko (the AI-powered transcription app) or any other AI software. Rather than relying on a bot to create my content, I prefer originality. So, what you read comes from me.
